Greg Berlanti to Direct ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ Reboot for Warner Bros.

Greg Berlanti is attached to direct a new retelling of the cult classic “Little Shop of Horrors” for Warner Bros., sources confirmed to Variety.

Matthew Robinson is penning the script.

“Little Shop of Horrors” first hit the big screen in 1960, in a film directed by Roger Corman and featuring a young Jack Nicholson in one of his first movie roles. It revolved around a clumsy young man who raises a plant, discovers it is carnivorous, and kills to keep it fed.

Frank Oz also directed his own version in 1986, which reached cult status and featured an all-star ensemble that included Bill Murray and Rick Moranis. Howard Ashman also directed an Off-Broadway adaptation as well.

Berlanti hasn’t directed a film since 2010’s “Life as We Know It,” but has developed superhero favorites on the TV including “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “Arrow,” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.” He also recently produced “Pan” for Warner Bros. He is repped by WME.

Robinson most recently penned “In Search of Humans” for Fox and Chernin. He is repped by ICM Partners and 3 Arts.

Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.
